The word coach or coaching can have many connotations, which differ from person to person. With that in mind we aim to answer some of those question that best help you understand exactly what coaching is.
What is coaching?
Coaching is a positive and challenging process which moves you closer to achieving your potential and helps you realise your goals. Through challenge and creative questioning, my coaching sessions create a safe and thought provoking space which allows you to explore ambitions and goals in an honest and trusting environment. Through effective goal setting and developing a positive desire to improve, the process speeds up the rate at which you will make progress and excel.
The great thing about coaching is that the ideas come from you. You know yourself and your situation best. My role is to push and stretch you to enable you to get to know yourself better, to help explore what is really going on right now. It is this which assists you in effectively making progress.
How do the coaching sessions run?
My one to one coaching sessions can take place in different ways; it is all down to your personal preference. I offer face to face, Skype and telephone coaching sessions and typically, they last for between 30 – 90 minutes, it all depends on you and your situation. They can be weekly, bi-weekly, monthly…it all depends on how it fits in with your schedule and how regularly you may need support.
Before the coaching process begins, my free induction session allows us to explore your personal needs and areas you would like to work on. It is here where you can explore if coaching is right for you and how the sessions may work for you and your current situation. When we agree a way forward, you’ll receive my free coaching journal to help empower you and to target set and monitor your progress.
How many sessions do I need?
Again, this all depends on you. Coaching works best as a short term process. I want you to learn and develop, not rely on a coach. The process may kick start something to help you in your way forward or you may need a little more time to develop particular skills and areas of your life. Some clients have only required one session, some need more but this will be explained in your induction session. Book this here.
What can you discuss with a coach?
My specialism lies in two areas, Education and Health & Well-being. I work with educational professionals, students and parents to form academic, behavioural and relationship change and also work with people who wish to develop their level of exercise and diet and well-being.
Confidentiality is paramount to the process and I work under a strict non-disclosure agreement with all my clients. The only exception being when working with young people in the educational setting. Being fully DBS checked, I work with educational establishments to ensure strict levels of safeguarding are in place to protect the young people in my care. Having extensive knowledge and experience in pastoral care, I work with professionals to follow tight referral policies and procedures to ensure proper safeguards are in place to protect young people. This ensures young people receive personalised support, referrals and signposting if required.
How does coaching work?

Brightways coaching sessions provide a space for you to explore, in a non-judgemental environment, your areas to develop and best ways forward. Through challenge and effective questioning, I will help you explore and set goals to make effective and positive steps towards you making a brighter way forward.
Despite my experience in the education and health sector, coaching is not about listening to my advice and guidance. The process is about you not me! My role it to question and channel your thoughts, values and beliefs to help you prioritise the things that matter to you. The safe, trusting and committed environment which we create allows real growth and progress to be made.
The process helps you understand yourself and explore where your strengths and areas to develop lie. In addition to coaching, I offer personality profiling which can assist you in getting to know yourself even better and increase self-awareness to explore your preferred working methods and how you respond to pressure.
Who needs coaching?
Anyone can benefit from coaching. My success in the education sector and working with individuals around and health and wellbeing prove that people from all ages and backgrounds can develop through coaching. All you need is the desire to improve. My role is to nurture and support you in a challenging environment to set specific goals to help you make progress.
